I had a dream that I was walking through an abandoned building. It looked like an old family home that had been trashed and then abandoned a long time ago. It was disorganized with children’s toys, broken wine glasses, broken beer bottles, cigarette butts and torn or broken furniture. It was bright outside from what I could see through cracks in the boarded up windows but it was very dark, dusty and smelled of decay in the house itself. I was completely alone. And I was also the age I am now; 18. I didn’t recognize the house itself but a lot of the things that were strewn around, were familiar. I just walked around the house and looked through each room. I think I was looking for something or someone but I don’t remember. I never found what I was looking for but I was walking toward the back door when I woke up.
Dreams of walking through an abandoned building, particularly one that resembles an old family home, can reflect various elements of one's inner state, memories, or life experiences. Let's break down your dream to help interpret its potential meanings:
Abandoned Building: The fact that the setting is an old family home might suggest that you are exploring aspects of your past or different parts of yourself. Abandoned buildings can symbolize areas of neglect, forgotten memories, or parts of your psyche that you've left unattended.
Disarray and Decay: The disorganized and decaying state of the house, with broken items and old toys, could symbolize feelings of neglect or unresolved issues from your past—perhaps aspects of your childhood or family life that you feel were left in disarray. This disorder might mirror emotions or situations you feel are currently chaotic or in need of addressing.
Familiar Objects: Seeing familiar items amidst the chaos suggests that, while you may not recognize the house itself, there are elements connected to your experiences or memories. These objects could be reminders of unfinished business, unaddressed memories, or even past behaviors and habits that you recognize need acknowledgment or reflection.
Darkness and Light: The contrast between the dark interior and the brightness outside indicates a dichotomy between your inner feelings and the outer world or your current reality. Darkness often symbolizes uncertainty, fear of the unknown, or introspection. The light filtering in through the window cracks suggests that there is hope or guidance available if you seek it, or it may indicate the potential for clarity and understanding.
Age and Search: Being the age you are now, 18, reflects your current state, combined with an ongoing transition toward adulthood. Walking through the building may symbolize a search for identity, purpose, or understanding of who you are becoming. It can also reflect a quest for certain truths or directions in life, as you navigate the balance between youth and pending adulthood.
Unfinished Search: Your search for something or someone indicates that there might be some unresolved issues or desires on your mind, maybe even subconsciously. Not finding what you are looking for might reflect an ongoing process and suggests that more exploration, introspection, or external searching might be necessary to find closure or direction.
Back Door: Moving toward the back door before waking up might represent a desire to exit or move away from old or unresolved issues, potentially symbolizing a desire for an escape or for moving past this stage into a new phase of life or understanding.
Overall, this dream suggests a need for reflection on your past and current state. It prompts you to consider what areas of life might need your attention—whether they pertain to emotional baggage, family dynamics, or issues related to growing up. It encourages contemplation and possibly reaching out or seeking guidance for clarity and resolution.
